Caernarfon Town 1 – Haverfordwest County 2

Substitute Owain Jones scored a dramatic stoppage time winner for Haverfordwest County against Caernarfon Town at the Oval.

Tony Pennock’s men impressively picked up their second away win in a row to see the Bluebirds’ comfortably perched at the top of the table as the only team to have a 100% winning record.

“I would have taken a draw before the game,” said Haverfordwest County manager Pennock. “We’ve had two tough away games at the start of the season, to come away with six points I can’t ask any more of the lads who have been fantastic.”

After a goalless first period the game came alive in the second half as the visitors opened the scoring in the 73rd minute, skipper Corey Shephard put a low cross on a plate for striker Ben Ahmun to slide home from close range.

However, it was short lived as the visitors switched off at a set piece which allowed hosts’ captain Matty Jones to equalise.

This clash looked as though it was heading for a draw until goal scorer Ahmun put in an inch perfect byline cross for substitute Jones to volley into the back of the net and send the travelling fans into ecstasy as they nicked the points.

Haverfordwest County chairman Rob Edwards said shortly after the final whistle. "Wasn’t always pretty and seemed tough conditions, but a dogged and clinical performance at a very tough place to get results. Maximum points from those first two games is massive and a huge credit to staff and players."
